most people prefer linux , many content management systems wont run properly on windows

Go to http://www.samwilson3d.com , there is a list of hosts (right side menu) they all have cpanel and something called “fantastico” the least expensive of these plans is around $50 per YEAR

Godaddy has given me problems of every kind including MySQL and FTP problems and they are just a pain in the butt

Now depending on what kind of site you want, I recommend Coppermine Photo Gallery or Joomla or Zen cart which is a 1 click install using Fantastico, you can make this look however you want bu only using Photoshop and CSS. I would start with a premade template designed for Coppermine and then make adjustments from there to make the site the way you want it.(the template can just be a starting point or you can not use one at all)

Joomla can also be installed with one click using Fantastico and that may also be the way to go.

Linux – less used/abused OS that tends to be more secure only in that it is frequently less targeted than a windows box. While that isn’t the only reason, it is a major contributor. This is also free to install and use at your own will. This is a good choice for hosting several language types i.e. php, perl, ruby, j2ee etc.

Windows – Costs a good bit to run and is prone to every crazy hacker out there. However, it’s a better choice to host your asp.net apps on this environment using IIS.

If you are looking for web hosting for linux hosting I’d suggest http://www.GotHosting.org which has Cpanel as well as Fantastico Suite (includes wordpress, forums, and tons of other free instantly installed software for your use). You can also host unlimited domains on one account.

Linux servers are far more secure. Uncrackable if the server operator knows what he’s doing

I think Linux is better. Apache is the server you want.

Linux is free, Windows costs $$. So the ISP’s tend to give better deals on Linux. Linux also has a lower overhead in terms of storage, memory and CPU use.
