If you have no prior experience with hosting I would use 1and1.com. They have a very easy to use Control Panel for hosting.

Linux is the major operating system of the server world. Microsoft has windows server 2008, but in my opinion it doesn’t compare to Linux. Also Linux is free so you should get a discount for not using windows.

Use a linux server, and when you are deciding on a good webhost, u should consider going to a website like http://www.webhostgumbo.com … They have a pricing and incentives comparison chart for the top 2008 web hosting companies starting at $4.95 per month with free for life domain names. Good luck

Linux is the number one choice for servers for a reason … stability! Windows server machines are notoriously cranky, and I have to do an “ORG Check” every two weeks just to make sure that my customer’s server hasn’t tripped over its own feet.
http://www.doteazy.com has an excellent and inexpensive Unlimited Hosting Plan at $9.95 a month. You get unlimited (unmetered) traffic, 20GB of server space, and all the standard tools and scripting environments you’ll likely need to get your site off the ground.
