first off you would need a good internet connection, a fiber optic line works best, something 10mb and above.

next, linux works better as a server os.

just install ubuntu and open bash, “apt-get install apache php5″

then go to your root web dir and put files in, when u open your computers lan ip in your browser you will see the files. if you need any help with all of this ive done it 100 times over and you can contact me on my forum :http://cognitive.ath.cx

A lot of people try this thinking more “is it possible” and not thinking “it it feasible”. Yes it can be done and it can work, but most likely it will not work the way that you want.

Even if you have “broadband” home internet, that is not sufficient to run a web hosting server. They type of connections that are meant for that are real expensive (and I’m not talking $100), so if you had it you wouldn’t have any problems purchasing a setup web server. But it sounds like you are looking for the cheap way. But you can not do it yourself for less than just buying hosting at http://easydch.com/hosting That way you get reliable hosting starting at $2.99! They have thousands of server computers with more than enough internet connections.

The basic set-up is much too expensive to just do one, they do it on a large scale so the volume brings down the prices.
