First, you might want to change your security question as someone may have accessed your e-mail by knowing the answer and that would be why your password changed.
As to the other problem, at least YOU were able to get that much of an answer out of Yahoo! about the mail issues.
Classic mail was “updated” recently and it has produced a good deal of issues with the system… I know this because it has happened to me. Everytime I attempt to get to the Yahoo! “help” center, I am asked to enter my password (AGAIN!!!!) and it returns me to the sign in page.
Sorry not much to offer than to let you know that you are NOT the only one that has had their e-mail screwed up in the past week or so…
You need to really consider going with a different web host. I mean, yahoo is great, but pricing wise, its way out of date. Try going to a site like http://www.webhostgumbo.com where you can compare all of the top web hosting companies and their plans. Its way worth it.
