After you put in your website you want to block you save it by using the file menu in notepad. Use File-> Save As->
but you have to put quotes around the hosts file when you save it because it does not have a file extension.
in the box where you are saving the file it should say:
“hosts”
Simply type “127.0.0.1 http://www.google.com” without the quotes on a blank line in your “hosts” file. You can open your hosts file using Notepad for example. The reason why you cannot save it, is because it is marked as read only. Right click the file before trying to save it and choose Properties. Remove the read only check mark. Now you can save the file. Make sure that you save the file without an extension (for example .TXT, .EXE. .DOC, these are all extensions). If you cannot save the file without an extension because it puts .TXT behind the name automatically for example, type as a name for the file “hosts” with the quotes. The quotes make sure that the file is then saved without an extension. Once the file is saved, make it read only again.
go to c:windows/system32/drivers/etc/ directory and edit the host file (remember, you may require admin privillages…)
if host file is not available save it in another location (say desktop). rename host file (say hosts1) and move the file saved in desktop and rename it to remove the extension… this worked fine for me….
