I have an old Pentium III 750Mhz Dell notebook with 256mb of ram and a 20gb hard drive. Since I do not have an optical drive on the system, I rely upon Windows based Linux installers or the dreaded PXE-boot installations. Since Ubuntu is the easiest to install, I decided I will use Xubuntu (an Ubuntu derrivative). So here are the functions I want it to perform:
- Router. I would like it to accept at least 1250 concurrent connections (not that I’ll ever reach that number of concurrent connections, but I would like to be able to use the connection without bottlenecks if I am running BitTorrent to download the latest release of a Linux distro or a pod/vidcast.) It is necessary to have a way to manage this from a local computer using a web-interface. It also must act as a firewall with VPN passthrough.

- DNS Server

- File Server for internal use. Must be able to be connected to from Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

- Print Server for internal use. Must be able to be connected to from Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

- Web Server for public use. Must be able to use PHP, Perl, MySQL in conjunction with it.

- Mail Server for private use (only people in my house / family will be able to use it as a client, however I still want to be able to recieve emails and send emails like one would do with a hosted Mail Server). Anti-SPAM is a must.

- Security Gateway. Not as important, but if I could run it, I would.

- Simplified Windows Domain Controller. Again not as important, but I would like something that is easy to configure and that allows for Mac OS X / Linux clients.

-

Hye all!
I have some question related to Windows Media Server Video streaming deployment. Base on my diagram below:

http://www.geocities.com/xmielax/serverxmediaxdiagram.jpg

I want to broadcast a live video streaming over the internet where someone can view it from it’s own PC. However i want to capture that video from a several different place, you will understand if you see that diagram*hopefully* . From what i understand right now, that camera must be connected to PC right? But what i thinking about is actually like what i draw on that image. Is it need each PC that connected to camera must be installed with Windows Media Server? However, from each location of that camera/live streaming we have to connected with our main server (via VPN) where at our main server will be host a web/mail server, firewall and everything that we centralized it. Or just make it simple,is it someone have a idea how i can deploy a live video streaming where that camera is located far away from our server

Here’s the setup:

1) The web server is Apache 2.x on Ubuntu 8.10
2) The router is a U.S. Robotics 5461 (password protected)
3) Internet access is DSL through AT&T (dynamic IP)
4) The web hosting service is No-IP.com

I cannot seem to (find the correct information to) setup the computer as a web host. I know I am so close and yet so far. Here’s what I have been able to do thus far:

I believe I have been able to make the LAN IP address static via the “Network Configuration” (or “Network Connections”) window in Ubuntu by editing “Wired” > “Auto eth0″ > “IPv4 Settings” where I changed the “Method” to “Manual” and adding an “Address” with the desired IP for that computer, thus, hopefully making it static.

Anyhow, I have Apache installed, and when I go to “http://localhost/” it comes up with the test page. However, when I attempt to access the no-ip.com address, it get’s back to my router, undoubtedly, but it requests the router’s username and password. When I type this info in, instead of the test webpage, it displays the router’s firmware.

In an attempt to forward the port, I have added both a TCP and a UDP for “Port Forwarding” within the router’s firmware with a “LAN port range” of “80 to 80″ and the “LAN IP address” with the static IP address that, previously, I had manually inputted. This did not take care of the matter.

What (else) do I need to do?

Thanks!

What you need to know before getting started with WHM cPanel is one of the widely used control panel in web host industry. WHM is its backend. This tutorial tells about everything that you need to set up and maintain a cPanel/WHM server. To run cPanel, you’ll need access to a Dedicated or a Virtually Dedicated Server that meets the system requirements. Most of the web hosts will install cPanel for you before giving access to a server. Before starting the installation, you need to know that your system meets the requirements. Start by going to cPanel.net. Click on arrow next to Products cPanel/WHM. Scroll down and click on System Requirements. The page has the list of all the requirements. If you plan to host a large number of domains, then it is suggested to have higher system configuration than the minimum. cPanel and WHM can’t be installed on a production web server. So, you need to have a freshly installed operating system. You must have a valid license for your server’s IP address for cPanel and WHM to work. Now you are ready for the installation. Anyone with a cPanel license can request support from the support link. If you face any problems during installation, do read the Installation Guide in Document links.
