A few companies have asked to get access to the code, after seeing a few examples of how we were successfully using it at work. Have 3 physical servers to work with. All are quad-core xeons with 8GB RAM each. The project is to build a windows domain, with full working web server, and a linux web server as well. Both stacks must be capable of running the website (independently)

I would like to include virtualization and clustering, was thinking of clustering 2 of the boxes to run a virtual windows domain on, with seperate VMs handling seperate services. One of the pieces of software I’ve read about is VMWare VSphere, which is great but the free version has a 60-day trial limit. The project isn’t over until the end of May, so that’s out, unless perhaps I could save the virtual hard drive files and then reinstall VMWare under another trial license and restore the VMs (anyone know if this works?). I’m afraid of setting everything up only to have to reconfigure it all a month before the due date.

So, for the Windows stack I have a practically limitless amount of windows server 2008 R2 licenses (yes, eval copies, this is after all an educational institution.), any edition or combination of editions.
For the Linux stack, I’m thinking of CentOS 5.5 (unless you can convince me otherwise?).

I had originally been set on using a hardware, replacement-for-the-host-os, virtualization solution that can cluster itself (hence VSphere), but am open to any combination of virtualization/clustering ideas.
Obviously you can’t complete the project for me, so I’m not asking you too. Just hoping for a bit of a discussion. Feel free to answer one, some, or all of the questions (were there any?) I’ve posed here. There is no right answer here ladies and gentlemen, only good ones and not-so-good ones. Can’t remember how the rating system works here but I will give positive feedback towards anyone whose answer is relevant. That’s all I ask. Thanks!
Oh, and yes, the servers have 2 NICs in each of them, and i have a separate switch to dedicate to the cluster network.
