It’s really no biggie…It’s a browser plug in for Internet Explorer. It’s supposed to help provide enriched video, but it seems to be video only on MSN or microsoft sites. If you install it and start having problems with your programs be sure to go straight to add/remove programs and get rid of it.
Silverlight enables development of the next generation of Microsoft .NET-based media experiences and rich interactive applications (RIAs) for the Web. Silverlight is delivered as a cross-platform and cross-browser plug-in that exposes a programming framework and features that are a subset of the .NET Framework and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). Two versions of Silverlight are available, version 1.0 and version 2.
Silverlight was released in an interim, beta version as version 1.1 in 2007. However, as Microsoft realized the extent to which they would be updating, revamping, and enhancing Silverlight, they decided to upgrade the release from a build update to an official, full fledged, new version.
