Ajax is use on linux and also with asp.net heavly it is not just a linux technology. Ajax is hot now & there is no incompatibilities to learn asp.net 2.0 and ajax. Where I work (large Fortune 300 company) there's plenty of .NET demand in Windows apps. Not nearly as much in Web, and precious little Distributed. Web has been gaining of late, though. Tough call.
