Why Ajax will hav a short life??

Ajax is use on linux and also with asp.net heavly it is not just a linux technology.

Ajax is hot now & there is no incompatibilities to learn asp.net 2.0
and ajax. Actually you will be more marketable if you do so.

Tough call. Where I work (large Fortune 300 company) there's plenty of .NET demand in Windows apps. Not nearly as much in Web, and precious little Distributed. Web has been gaining of late, though.
