What type of comuter is best for creating a web server?

Linux will require you to use less resources, so will not require the processing power that an Apple or Windows machine would demand. There are special Linux distributions made just for hosting web sites.

If the computer is just going to be a Web server, I would recommend Linux (I use Ubuntu, but there are plenty of good distributions out there). If you plan on using it as a desktop computer as well, get a Mac. Don’t even consider Windows — it doesn’t work well for either purpose.

70% of internet sites are hosted on Linux servers. This is because they are the most stable and reliable and they use the least resources.

I would go Debian 4.0 ( http://www.debian.org/ ), as this seems to be the most stable. CentOS, which is based on RedHat, is also widely used ( http://www.centos.org ).

If you want to use the computer as a desktop as well as a server, I would try Ubuntu Server Edition ( http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/serveredition ).
