call your isp and find out if you have dynamic/static ip, you need a static ip to run that service.
you will need the latest editions of cpanel and i-cant-remember-the-name-of-the-other-web-hosting-interface.
and most importantly you will need to bulletproof your rig from attacks since you are probably looking at hosting multiple clients in your basement….
other than that make sure you find out what the bandwidth caps are from your isp provider so that you will know what to tell your clients when they ask.
goodluck
1. You will need to find out what your upload and download speeds are from your ISP. If you want to host websites, you have to have a high UPLOAD speed (this is typically 1/10 of the download on a residential package).
2. A residential Internet package typically comes with no uptime guarantees, while website owners DEMAND high uptime from their providers. You will want to move to a business package, and those are much more expensive. Alternatively you can learn how to do some basic routing and at least get a second internet connection from another provider. Not guaranteed still, but better at least.
3. You must have a static IP address. Really, you should have one per website… but if you play around with DNS files you can tell it to use non-standard ports for web traffic. Much easier to use 1 IP address per website though, and probably preferred by the hostees.
