If you want to run normal web applications without unearthly errors nagging at you all of the time, stick with Linux.
If you really need a windows environment (and the only reason that I would think for this is because 1. You’d rather run a DOS shell for your ssh or 2. You’re trying the .Net Framework (which could’ve been replicated on Linux via mono anyways)
But to answer your question. Contact a customer support representative at GoDaddy and have them sort the problem out.
(Again: It’s your best bet if you just stick with Linux, Windows costs extra for the proprietary system and is just not worth it at all compared to the flexibility of a *nix plan)
It doesn’t matter what kind of OS you host your site on, it has nothing to do with your local operating system. Linux/Unix is the best especially when starting out.
Unless you’re trying to do something very clever, the choice of your host OS makes no difference.
I routinely develop web sites on Windows, and host them on Linux.
Remember, all your hosting does is provide file storage and an Internet connection. Your website is just a bunch of files. You can make them anywhere you like, and then simply upload them to your host.
And unless you’re building some advanced dynamic site that extensively uses the Unix shell (which I’m sure you’re not, since you’re a beginner), your site will work fine on any host.
Yes Linux is good, Soon you will be familiar with this. You need to much care about service provider, i heard some bad information’s about them.
hi,
me too did the same when i was hosting it with http://www.tucktail.com/ but when i called the support they duly made me correct my mistake
OS should not be a prob in web hosting… you just need to learn basic of Linux because it seems to be a little difficult as compared to windows but Linux is very efficient and stable OS, so why do you want to move?
