No, you don’t need to use a certain hosting company. Websites don’t care about what operating system they are run under. Mac OS X uses the same web server (Apache) as Linux, and that server will run under Windows as well. You probably want the Linux hosting because it’s much more similar to the Mac internally, for the few instances where that does matter.
Hi,
1- Don’t go with godaddy because of http://www.nodaddy.com
2- One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to select the same operating system for your hosting account that you use on your own computer. This is simply not true. In other words, you can select Linux for your hosting account if you currently use Windows or Mac operating systems on your own computer.
3- As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

These web hosting companies aren’t free, but they’re really cheap.

I also use Mac. You don’t need to use a specific hosting company. You can use any company out there. I manage over 100 websites and I have been with HostGator for over a year now and I just signed my friend up and I used coupon code: HOST994YHO for him and saved him close to $10. I have been with at least 5 other companies and HostGator is really one of the best.
In regards to domain registration the cost for the domain with Hostgator is $15. If you want to save on the domain name register it with GoDaddy and use a coupon there as well. For example coupon code CJC749NOT will save you a few bucks: you will be able to register a domain name for $7.49. BTW, GoDaddy also offers hosting but I would not recommend that. Hosting at GoDaddy is not that great.
Contact me if you need more info. I would be happy to help.
You do not need Mac web hosting lol. You should get your domain name and hosting from http://easydch.com/hosting because there is a deal if you buy them together. Now for the ecommerce you also need a SSL certificate and guess who has the best price http://easydch.com/ssl , but you need this for anyone to buy from your site because it makes it secure (gives you httpS:// and the pad-lock etc).
There are a lot of ways to set up ecommerce options on your website but if you need a shopping cart they’ll install one for free http://ezdch.com/apps also if you want you can use PayPal to accept credit cards if you are not yet ready for a merchant account.
