Check your resolv.conf file and see what your settings are.
Additionally you sound like you may even have routing issues.
if the server has changed sub-networks that could certainly be the case.
Putty, if it has stopped working may need to re-authenticate the box, just login using putty from the workstation / server you send and receive information from – again – and you should be in better shape.
Otherwise, you sound like you just might be having plain old communications problems.
