Well, you know the two technologies are quite different. Which do you think you would prefer learning?
Also, there is nothing stopping you from learning both; or at least becoming proficient in one and able to get by in the other.
Personally, I enjoy programming in Flash, but to put together a site (I run three sites but for fun, not as a job) I needed to learn html (dreamweaver), css, php and mySQL to some extent.
Another thing is that the programming is only part of the story. The recent success stories on the web also are guided by design principles as well as psychology. Yahoo Answers is a good example. It’s just answering questions, but they craft it into a fun experience using a points system and giving you levels (like in a game) that reward you in different ways.
